Project Overview
Oh, Henry! is the story of a spirited little goat whose quick mind and restless energy constantly land him in situations he didn’t plan for. No matter how hard he tries, his day seems to spiral — until a kind neighbor offers the understanding he didn’t know he needed. Author Elizabeth N. Carroll has written a story that will resonate deeply with children who have been told to slow down, sit still, or think before they act — and with the adults who love them.
The illustration challenge was bringing Henry’s energy to the page without making him seem reckless or unsympathetic. His mischief needed to read as lovable chaos, not bad behaviour, so that readers root for him from the very first “Oh, Henry!”
Role
Elizabeth came with a story that lives in the body — Henry’s big energy isn’t a flaw to be corrected, it’s the whole emotional engine of the book. My job was to make that energy feel joyful and sympathetic on the page, so readers immediately root for him rather than wince at the chaos. Expression and posture had to carry the comedy and the tenderness in equal measure.
From developing Henry and the full anthropomorphic supporting cast through to print-ready files, I worked across 38 pages of full illustration, making sure each spread made young readers with big energy feel seen.

Character Design
Before a single page is illustrated, I develop the main characters in full — defining their proportions, expressions, and personality. This is the foundation that keeps your characters recognizable and consistent across every scene, every lighting condition, and every emotional moment in the project.
Process
Every project follows this same structured path, so you always know where we are and what comes next. You review and approve at the sketch stage and the line art stage — nothing moves to color until you’re happy. By the time the final spread is rendered, there are no surprises.
