Project Overview

Lucy Meets a Logger by Stephanie Fuller is the third book in Stephanie Fuller’s forestry education series, following Sam Visits a Sawmill and Travis Visits a Tree Farm through another stage of the timber journey — this time, the logging operation itself. When Lucy meets Mr. Logger and his woodland companions, she learns how trees are responsibly harvested, how forests are replenished, and how many everyday items begin their life in a managed forest. Fuller continues her approach of treating young readers as genuinely curious people capable of understanding complex systems, making the content feel like discovery rather than instruction.

The illustration challenge was making a logging operation feel exciting and respectful simultaneously — heavy machinery and felled trees needed to read as part of a careful, sustainable process rather than destruction, keeping the visual tone aligned with the story’s message of stewardship.
